No two days are the same when you’re a mechanic at Teeling Petfood!
What’s it like working as a mechanic in the pet food sector? Raymond and Ruhan, our Technical Services coordinators tell you all about it! They talk about their experiences and give us four reasons why they like working at Teeling.
With bullet points to make it extra clear. :)
1. Every day is differentRaymond: When I get in the car in the morning, I don’t have to worry for one bit about what I’m going to do that day. There’s always plenty of work you can get on with in our factories, but what exactly; that’s a surprise every time. What’s nice is that what we do really counts, because without us there’s no production process.
2. You’re the real MacGuyver
Ruhan: I don’t know if you’re familiar with the name MacGuyver, but in our factory, as a mechanic, you’re definitely one. For those who don’t know the name MacGuyver, this was the main character in the television series MacGuyver, which was on TV between 1985 and 1992. Every episode, this man managed to extricate himself from hopeless situations by making complex contraptions using household items. Creative, inventive and able to cope with stress - pretty much the keywords of this hero. And that’s how we at Technical Services feel sometimes too: we deal creatively with the challenges of the day. And if we can’t get the parts, we need to get inventive. That’s why everyone knows the term MacGuyver in our department.
3. Short lines
Raymond: One of the best points about Teeling is the short lines. When there are breakdowns, people just drop by Technical Services. And everyone in the factory knows you - and you know them, of course. With a maximum of fifty people per factory and eight per shift, the atmosphere is personal and friendly. Not just friendly, but also pleasant. And that’s great as it means you get to realise your own ideas and introduce improvements. It’s brilliant.Ruhan: May I add that the atmosphere is actually top notch? We really work together. Every day, we make a high-quality product together. And that’s something I’m really proud of.
4. Flexible working days
Raymond: As a mechanic, you work in both factories on a two-shift schedule. That means hard work but there are also compensations. We have a lot of freedom during working hours. For instance, in our team, by mutual agreement of course, we’re never difficult about days and hours off. If you work twelve hours one day, you simply work less the next. At Teeling, we basically use a time-for-time compensation system.
